This Stoma Care Training course is designed to equip healthcare and social care staff with the knowledge and practical understanding required to safely support individuals living with a stoma. The training focuses on promoting dignity, independence, comfort, and infection prevention while delivering person-centred care.
Participants will learn about the different types of stomas, including colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy, as well as the reasons why stomas are formed. The course covers routine stoma care procedures, changing and emptying stoma bags, skin care management, recognising complications, and maintaining privacy and dignity for individuals receiving support.
By the end of the training, learners will be able to:

Understand the different types of stomas and their functions.

Safely assist with changing and emptying stoma appliances.

Maintain good hygiene and infection prevention practices.

Recognise signs of skin irritation, infection, leakage, or other complications.

Support individuals in a respectful and person-centred manner.

Record and report concerns appropriately in line with organisational policies and procedures.

Understand their role and limitations when providing stoma care.
