Personal Care

This Personal Care Training course is designed to provide healthcare and social care staff with the knowledge and skills required to deliver safe, respectful, and person-centred personal care. The training focuses on promoting dignity, independence, privacy, and wellbeing while supporting individuals with their daily care needs.

Participants will learn about the importance of communication, consent, infection prevention and control, moving and assisting safely, and maintaining professional boundaries when providing personal care. The course also covers supporting individuals with washing, dressing, oral care, toileting, continence care, grooming, and maintaining skin integrity while respecting individual preferences, cultural needs, and choices.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to:

• Understand the principles of person-centred personal care.

• Promote dignity, privacy, choice, and independence.

• Deliver personal care safely and respectfully.

• Maintain infection prevention and control standards.

• Support individuals with hygiene, dressing, grooming, and toileting needs.

• Recognise and report concerns such as skin damage, changes in wellbeing, or safeguarding issues.

• Communicate effectively and obtain consent when providing care.

• Record and report care provided in line with organisational policies and procedures.

 

This training supports staff to develop the confidence and competence needed to provide high-quality personal care that promotes comfort, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for individuals receiving support.
