Diabetes Awareness

Duration - 2.5 Hours

This Diabetes Awareness Training course is designed to provide healthcare and social care staff with the knowledge and understanding required to support individuals living with diabetes safely and effectively. The training focuses on promoting wellbeing, recognising potential risks, and supporting individuals to manage their condition in a person-centred way.

​Participants will gain an understanding of the different types of diabetes, including Type 1, Type 2,  as well as the causes, symptoms, and treatment options associated with the condition. The course also covers blood glucose monitoring, medication awareness, diet and lifestyle considerations, recognising and responding to hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia, and the importance of ongoing monitoring and support.

​By the end of the training, learners will be able to:

• Understand the different types of diabetes and their causes.

• Recognise the signs and symptoms of high and low blood sugar levels.

• Understand the importance of diet, exercise, and medication in diabetes management.

• Support individuals with blood glucose monitoring and diabetes care routines where appropriate.

• Respond appropriately to diabetic emergencies in line with organisational procedures.

• Promote person-centred care, dignity, and independence.

• Record and report concerns accurately in accordance with policies and procedures.

This training supports staff to develop the confidence and competence needed to provide safe, effective, and compassionate support to individuals living with diabetes.
