Basic Life Support (BLS) Training course is designed to provide healthcare and social care staff with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively in emergency situations where a person’s life may be at risk.


​The training covers the principles of basic life support, including assessing an emergency situation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and responding to choking incidents. Participants will also learn how to act quickly and confidently while following current resuscitation guidelines and organisational procedures.

By the end of the training, learners will be able to:

  • Recognise and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

  • Assess a casualty safely using the primary survey approach.

  • Perform effective CPR on adults in line with current guidelines.

  • Understand the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  • Respond appropriately to choking incidents.

  • Place an unresponsive, breathing person into the recovery position.

  • Understand the importance of calling for emergency assistance promptly.

  • Record and report incidents in line with organisational procedures.

 

This training aims to ensure staff feel confident and competent in providing immediate support during life-threatening emergencies, helping to improve outcomes and maintain the safety and wellbeing of individuals in their care.
